SAE 1026 tubing is an alloy of low-carbon steel containing mostly iron with carbon levels approximately 0.26%. Small amounts of manganese, silicon, and phosphorus are also present. The material has a combination of strength, ductility, and weldability. The mechanical properties of SAE 1026 are tensile strength around 60-80 ksi (414-552 MPa), yield strength about 40-60 ksi (276-414 MPa), and elongation of 20-30%. These properties make it an appropriate material for use in structural and mechanical applications where moderate formability and strength are required.
